ALMOST £10,000 has been raised for the parents of an 11-year-old girl who died in Cornwall.

Lilly Angel Rodgers, from Newton Abbot, died after an incident at a Cornish beauty spot.

She was named at the opening of an inquest into her death by Cornwall Coroner’s Court.

The incident happened at about 6pm on Saturday August 16 at Wacker Quay near Antony, Torpoint,

Emergency services were called to the quay following concerns for a child in the water.

Police confirmed Lilly died at the scene and said there were no suspicious circumstances.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up by close family friend Karyn Lee who said Lilly’s parents were in the ‘most heart breaking situation’.

More than 250 people have donated to the appeal which has raised £9,995 of a target of £11.

Karyn said: ‘Nick is one of my oldest and closest pals.

‘Nick and Vanya are now in the most heart breaking situation.

'As, many of you now know, their beautiful daughter has lost her life in the most tragic and unexpected of circumstances.

‘This has come as an unimaginable shock to both parents.

‘Nick is such a positive, kind being.

'It would be so great if we could all come together and support him and the family.

‘Any help would be appreciated just to help them navigate their way through, their loss.’

It is understood Lilly’s father had links to the St Marychurch area of Torquay.

The Dolphin pub in St Marychurch Precinct will be hosting a coffee and cake morning on Saturday August 30 in honour of Lilly.

The John Bull Pub in Chatto Road, Torquay, said: ‘We are deeply saddened to hear of the sudden and heartbreaking loss of our friends and neighbours’ beautiful little girl, Lilly.

'Our thoughts and love are with her family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.’

The inquest into her death was opened and adjourned by Cornwall Coroner's Court.

A full hearing will be held at a later date.
