LOCAL charity Planet Earth Games Trust are hosting a ‘plogging’ event on Sunday, November 27, starting from Newton Abbot’s Clock Tower at 10am.

It is the second pilot event of the activity that combines jogging and picking up litter; everyone is welcome to join this pilot session, which is led by a qualified group leader and with all the litter picking equipment being supplied by Teignbridge District Council.

Founder of Planet Earth Games Trust, Chris Broadbent, said: ‘We got off to a great start from our first pilot event in September when a group of seven covered 3.4k and collected 15.7kg of litter - in total, 8.9kg was recycle-able and was separated and returned to Teignbridge District Council for recycling.

‘Our charity’s objectives are to help people get more active and get people involved in environmental sustainability - so, plogging is perfect!

‘We hope to make this a regular event in the near future with the support of town residents.’

For those wishing to join the plogging group, one can either register via the Planet Earth Games Facebook page or simply turn up on the day; participants just need to come ready to go with sportswear and trainers.

Planet Earth Games Trust, which is based in Bovey Tracey, recently won the Social Impact in Education award, the first of several at the annual British Sustainable Sport Awards at Chelsea Football Club.

Created in 2019 and supported by Sport England National Lottery, Planet Earth Games Trust delivered a three-pronged programme across the School Games network which reaches 2.5m young people annually.

The programme sought to prioritise sustainability in sports education through the training of sports organisers and the creation of new programmes for young sports leaders.
