A SUSPENDED prison sentence and a sexual harm prevention order were handed to a Newton Abbot man who admitted making indecent pictures of children.

Richard Williams, aged 68, of Lethbridge Court, Courtenay Park, pleaded guilty to making a category A indecent photograph of a child.

South and West Devon Magistrates' Court sentenced him to prison for 16 weeks, suspended for 18 months.

The magistrates said: ‘Reason: Offence so serious. Reason for custody: Sentencing guidelines applied suspended due to realistic prospect of rehabilitation and effect on mental health.’

During the supervision period of 18 months, Williams must carry out up to 40 activity days and carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.

The court also imposed a sexual harm prevention order for five years.

Williams must also pay £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and £128 to fund victim services.

He also pleaded guilty to making two Category B indecent photographs of a child and a further charge of making three Category C indecent photographs of a child.
