YOUNGSTERS at Bovey Tracey Academy are celebrating the school’s best ever SATS results.

The Standard Assessment Tests saw 95 per cent of pupils at the school meeting the expected standard in reading, writing and maths.

This is up 27 per cent on last year’s results.

And 75 per cent of pupil premium children and 75per cent of children with special educational needs at also met the expected standards in all three subjects.

This year's national average is 63per cent of children meeting the expected standard across all areas, so the school is performing well above average.

In reading and maths, 97per cent of the school’s pupils met the expected standard and 95per cent reached it in writing.

Nationally, the figures are 75per cent for reading and maths and 73per cent for writing.

Standard Assessment Tests, commonly known as SATs, are taken by children in year 6. These national curriculum assessments cover English grammar, punctuation and spelling, reading, and maths.

The tests assess pupils’ academic progress, help identify where additional support may be needed and enable schools to evaluate the impact of teaching, while also contributing to the national picture of educational performance.

The school also celebrated success in the year 1 Phonics Screening Check, with 94per cent of pupils passing the statutory assessment designed to test children's ability to decode words using phonics.

Year 4 pupils also celebrated strong results in the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC), with 87per cent successfully meeting the expected standard, an increase of 26 percentage points on 2025.

The MTC is a statutory assessment for all year 4 children in England, designed to assess how fluently pupils can recall their times tables up to 12.

While we are delighted to celebrate these achievements, what matters most is seeing children develop a genuine love of learning and the confidence to take the next step in their education.’
