A NEW 30mph speed limit has been introduced on approaches to the temporary mini roundabout at Clay Pits Way as part of measures to improve safety at the temporary mini roundabout.

The reduced speed limit follows concerns from local residents and road users about vehicle speeds, visibility and signage.

The temporary 30mph restriction is now in place on approaches from both the north and south of the junction.

Officials say the lower limit will give drivers more time to identify the temporary roundabout, adjust their speed and safely negotiate the layout.

Concerns have been raised that some motorists are continuing to exceed the new limit.

Devon & Cornwall Police has confirmed that speed enforcement activity will take place at the location.

Alongside the speed reduction measures, work is also being carried out to improve visibility around the junction.

Vegetation, including hedges, has been identified as restricting views of road signs and the roundabout itself.

Clearance work has now been commissioned to cut back vegetation in the area, improving sightlines for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians approaching and using the junction.

The temporary mini roundabout is also being reviewed through an independent Road Safety Audit.

The assessment will examine how the layout is operating and consider feedback from residents, reports of incidents, and concerns raised about visibility and driver behaviour.

Further improvements are being considered as part of the ongoing review, with measures informed by monitoring, public feedback and the findings of the safety audit.

Authorities say the junction will continue to be closely monitored throughout the diversion period, with road safety remaining the highest priority.
