The latest plan for the long-term ‘vision’ of Dartmoor goes out to public consultation on October 12.

The Dartmoor Partnership Plan guides the conservation, protection and sustainable use of the national park, and is reviewed every five years.

A board of partners, approved by the Dartmoor National Park Authority, has been working on the draft plan for 2027-32. The members include the local authorities, the Environment Agency, Natural England, Historic England, the Forestry Commission, the Devon Wildlife Trust, the RSPB, recreation and access organisations, and those representing farmers and commoners.

They identified seven key priority areas where working together can make a real difference: climate change, nature and natural beauty, cultural heritage, farming and forestry, business and communities, public access and recreation, and preparing Dartmoor for the next generation to live, work and explore.

The public were also invited to give their views on priorities and challenges for the next five years, in a survey conducted in 2025. Climate change and biodiversity decline were highlighted, alongside opportunities for greater public access, active travel, nature restoration and sustainable farming.

Will Dracup, who chairs the Dartmoor National Park Authority and the Dartmoor Partnership Plan Board, said: “The Authority is delighted to take forward the future ambitions for Dartmoor National Park.

“The review of the partnership plan aims to bring forward a comprehensive suite of outcomes and targets that articulate how collective efforts will ensure a thriving future for Dartmoor and its unique qualities.”

Details of the Dartmoor Partnership Plan can be found at www.yourdartmoor.org. A questionnaire inviting public feedback on the updated version will be published on the Authority’s website from Monday, October 12. Paper copies will be available from its main office at Parke and the visitor centres at Haytor and Postbridge. The Authority will also host drop-in sessions in locations to be announced in the near future.

The final version of the plan is expected to be formally adopted by the Authority in 2027.
