FOR many a robust winter jacket of good condition is a staple of the wardroube, seeing the light of day whenever the temperature takes a plunge.
There are those, however, for whom such a garment is not a staple and it is for these persons that one Teignbridge post office’s latest offering is aimed.
Kingskerswell Post Office, headed up by Postmistress Kaz Jones, has set up a warm clothes rail at its premises on Fore Street.
The post office has gratefully received myriad donations of clothes such as winter jackets, jumpers, scarfs and more, from members of the community, which can then in turn be taken by those in need at no cost.
‘I read a post on Facebook which really touched my heart’ Kaz said.
‘It was about an old lady who was crying because she had no money for electric or food.
‘It got me thinking about how nobody should live like that - nobody should have to choose between keeping warm and eating’ she added.
Kaz then took to social media, calling upon the community to donate warm items such as coats.
‘Honestly, we have had so many donations’ Kaz said.
‘It is all from the generosity of the village – it is amazing’ she added.
The post office hopes to keep the clothes rail going through until the summer months whereupon it will donate the remaining clothes to Kingkerswell Action Group.
Kingskerswell Post Office is open Monday to Saturday and shares a space with the sweet shop Kaleidoscope.
