ON-street parking charges in Newton Abbot are set to increase from January, it can be confirmed.
Signs setting out the new prices have appeared across the town, with the increase coming into force from January 12.
Newton Abbot is divided up into five areas: A, B, C, D and D1.
The full list of the current charges, followed by the new charges, are as follows:
• A - Devon Square; Elm Road; Marsh Road; Queen Street; Union Street and Victoria Place - 20 mins: £0.60 → £0.70 | 40 mins: £1 → £1.10 | 1 hour: £1.70 → £1.90.
• B - Abbotsbury Road; Chelston Road; Fisher Road; Garston Avenue Powderham Road and Tudor Road - 30 mins: £0.40 → £0.50 | 1 hour: £0.70 → £0.80.
• C - Beaumont Road; Hampton Road; Hilton Road and Southernhay - 30 mins: £0.40 → £0.50 | 1 hour: £0.70 → £0.80 | 1 hour and 30 mins: £1.90 → £ £2.60 | 2 hours: £2.50 → £3.20.
• D - Church Road; Courtenay Park; Devon Square; Forde Park and St Pauls Road - 30 mins: £0.40 → £0.50 | 1 hour: £0.70 → £0.80 | 1 hour and 30 mins: £1.90 → £ £2.60 | 2 hours: £2.50 → £3.20 | 2 hours and 30 mins: £2.90 → £3.70 | 3 hours: £3.30 → £4.30 | 3 hours and 30 mins: £3.80 → £5.20 | 4 hours: £4.40 → £6.10.
• D1 - Forde Close - 30 mins: £0.40 → £0.50 | 1 hour: £0.70 → £0.80 | 1 hour and 30 mins: £1.90 → £ £2.60 | 2 hours: £2.50 → £3.20 | 2 hours and 30 mins: £2.90 → £3.70 | 3 hours: £3.30 → £4.30 | 3 hours and 30 mins: £3.80 → £5.20 | 4 hours: £4.40 → £6.10 | Over 4 hours: £7.70 → £8.50
The last time prices were increased was back in 2022, with the latest price hike being part of part of Devon County Council’s aim to encourage drivers to use car parks over on-street parking.
The council authorised the increase in October, despite the initial decision being challenged by councillors.
