POLICE are urging anyone with information that could help their enquiries into a Newton Abbot incident involving a group of twenty-year-olds to come forward.

Officers carried out a stop check on a vehicle in Newton Abbot town centre at around 11.15pm on Wednesday, May 14.

Four individuals, all aged in their 20s, exited the car - two were detained and two fled the area.

The driver and a passenger were arrested at the scene on suspicion of drugs offences.

They have since been released and enquiries ongoing.

A short time later officers were made aware of an injured man in Bearnes Lane.

The man, who is believed to be one of the passengers, has sustained multiple injuries and remains in hospital.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: ‘The circumstances of this are being investigated.

‘Officers located the fourth person at home and have carried out a welfare check. Devon & Cornwall Police have made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, as is normal procedure in these circumstances.

‘Anyone with information which may assist our enquiries is asked to contact Police on 101 quoting log 992 of 14 May.’
