A CARE home in Ashburton has been fined close to £50,000 after a resident died following a fall.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) took Ashburton House Care Home to court over its treatment of Mr Robin Lee.
Mr Lee fell down steps in another residents bathroom in May 2022, sustaining serious injuries as a result.
During a hearing on Friday, September 26 at Plymouth Magistrates' Court, the care home’s bosses pleaded guilty to failing to provide safe care and treatment to Mr Lee, who had dementia.
The home was ordered to pay a fine of £48,000, a £190 victim surcharge and costs in excess of £14,000.
A spokesperson for Ashburton House Care Home said it accepted the court's finding and had made improvements since the incident, the BBC reported.
