MEMBERS of a Dawlish cancer support group have themselves raised money to help a treatment unit.

The Sunflower Bunch group collected £280 from a bingo session and used the cash to provide items to the chemotherapy unit at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

They presented the Cherrybrook unit with two radios, a kettle, toaster and coffee maker, all bought with the proceeds of their evening.

Local supplier Samsons in Dawlish gave a discount to the group which boosted their total.

And one of the members even provided pods for the coffee machine.

Unit matron Melanie Ruben was said to be ‘overwhelmed’ with the donations.

Sunflower Bunch spokesman Sue Thompson explained: ‘In 2022 , the then Mayor of Dawlish, Lisa, Mayne, decided to hold monthly bingo evenings to raise money for local groups and charities.

‘When she retired as Mayor, this year, the groups who had benefitted from these evenings, decided to carry on with them, with the help of Dawlish’s favourite bingo caller, Jimmy Hill.

‘The Sunflower Bunch held its one in April.

‘The Matron and nurses were overwhelmed when they saw all these items and couldn't stop saying thank you.

‘The Sunflower bunch would like to give its thank yous to everyone who attended their evening and helped this presentation be possible.’
