THIS year’s Dawlish Christmas Tree festival is officially open.
The popular event has more than 40 festive trees decorated by community organisations and charities from across Dawlish.
Held at St Gregory’s Church, the festival was officially opened by Mayor of Dawlish Cllr Anthony James who joined Revd Linda Cronin to launch this year’s festival which runs until December 21.
A spokesman said; ‘The festival beautifully showcases a wide array of trees created by community organisations from across the parish.
‘We warmly encourage everyone to visit and enjoy the creativity and festive spirit on display.’
Among the trees is one by Dawlish-based charity Assist Teignbridge which features memory angels and visitors can add their own memory to the tree.
Others include Dawlish Pet Pantry, Dawlish Fairtrade Friends, Teignmouth and Dawlish Talking Newspapers and Dawlish WI.
A festival concert takes place tomorrow, Saturday December 13, featuring music and song with local groups including the combined choirs of St Gregory’s and St George’s, Gatehouse Academy choir, Chordettes Acappella Chorus, Dawlish Rockwaves, The High C’s and One Accord.
It starts at 3pm, entry is free but donations welcome with the proceeds divided between Assist Teignbridge and Dawlish Community Larder.
