SHALDON Bowling Club opened their green on Saturday, April 18, ahead of the new season.

A sunny morning brought 20 ladies and gents to take part in the opening Spider event followed by a first “roll up” of the season.

Volunteers have achieved a lot including maintaining the inside and outside of the “unique” clubhouse and maintaining and upgrading their famous picturesque village bowling green, which was looking fabulous thanks to the hard-working team over the winter period led by Paul Nash & John Pearce. Special thanks to be made to Tim Biddlestone for helping transport all the grass cuttings off to the recycling centre.

New chairperson Carole Sims welcomed everyone to the start of a new season and voiced her hope that we would continue the momentum gained from last season’s success to even better results this season! She also thanked all generous sponsors for their invaluable support for this season.

Tim Palmer from the London Inn (one of the main sponsors) opened the season by bowling a set of bowls up to the Jack to set us on our way.

All teams have several friendly games and roll up sessions scheduled over the next few weeks before the season starts in earnest in May.

New members are always welcome to come and join this inclusive community bowling club.

Local residents can receive supportive free taster sessions, along with guidance from experienced team members on how to benefit from your session whether you are brand new to the sport or just looking for a new opportunity to continue or improve your bowling experience.

The club can provide you with bowling equipment for the session, all you will need are some flat shoes and comfortable clothing.

Contact can be made via the Shaldon Bowling Club website, or by contacting club secretary James Phillips (men) or Anne Mears (ladies). Telephone numbers are available from their website or published in the Shaldon and Ringmore Parish News.
