THE weather gods looked kindly upon Marina Bowls Club this year for the opening of the green on Saturday, April 18.

Club president Cherry Chapman welcomed Dawlish Community Transport who were opening the green this year and around 35 members of Marina to the official opening of the green for the 2026 season.

The proceedings started by presenting Dawlish Community Transport with a cheque for £380 which represented our charity monies collected from events held at Marina during the 2025 season.

This was followed by a volunteer from DCT bowling the first wood. He was a natural and the club hopes to enlist him as a member in the near future. Everyone then went inside for free cake made by some of the members with tea/coffee.

Later in the morning, around 28 members took advantage of the weather to get in some practice.

The green is looking superb and bowling very well, thanks go to the greenkeeping team (all are member volunteers) for all the hard work over the winter/spring in achieving such a great lawn to bowl on.

The Dawlish Community Transport volunteers are very grateful to Marina for their donation and expressed how much our support of a local facility means to them.

Marina will be holding their annual Taster Day on Sunday, May 10 between 10am and 4pm, hoping to attract new members of any age including children/teenagers.

Just wear flat shoes/trainers, everything else will be provided. Coaches and club members will be on hand- the club is situated on Sandy Lane, Dawlish.
