NEWTON Abbot Rotarians collected more than £2,000 in the town yesterday (Thursday) to help their plans for a mission to help the people of Ukraine.

While they are still drawing up plans, which will be revealed in next week’s Mid-Devon Advertiser, they have been fundraising for a project to deliver aid directly to the people of Ukraine.

They were at Fermoy’s Garden Centre and Newton Abbot Town Centre where they raised more than £2,000.

Rotarian Martin Smith said: ‘The response was fantastic with everyone saying they just wanted to help the people of Ukraine.’

Along with other Rotarians he will be out in the town and at Fermoy’s again tomorrow.

‘Please donate,’ said Martin, “As we intend to get all the aid we can direct to the people in the heart of the conflict.’

They will be out and about from 10am tomorrow (Saturday) but you can also donate to the cause.
