A COUNTY wide event which will see churches host ‘open days’ takes places on Saturday, September 10.

Organised by the Devon Historic Churches Trust, the event, dubbed ‘Devon Historic Churches Day’, welcomes the public to come and explore one of Devon’s many churches.

It is also an opportunity to learn about the art of Church Bell Ringing as well as go on a guided tour of the grounds.

Among the many churches set to welcome visiors is St Mary’s Church in Kingskerswell.

Open from 10am to 5pm on September 10, visitors to St Mary’s will have the chance to see the new ringing gallery, ascend the tower and even ring a bell themselves.

A quarter peal of 1260 changes, taking in the region of 45 minutes to complete, will be attempted at 5pm.

There is also a range of childrens activites planned as well as refreshments and cakes on offer.
