The ladies of Newton Abbot WI really did celebrate the Jubilee in style with a 1950s style garden party in the beautiful surroundings of our lovely member Barbara’s garden, writes Karen Jenks.

Our ladies all contributed to the afternoon show casing their talents for baking, flower arranging, crafting, and loaning their tea service.

We also had a surprise visitor, Roger who was from Westcountry ITV News. Yes we were on the TV !

A fabulous afternoon was had by all with a pin the jewel on the crown competition, lucky number ration book, hunt the Corgi (knitted by Barbara) and a crafted crown competition.

The star of the afternoon was our knitted Queenie (knitted by our lovely member Pat) who was accompanied by our WI mascot Petunia.

A delicious cake was made by Judy and we had a champagne toast to her Majesty and thanked her for her amazing 70 year reign.

What a joyous occasion. Thank you to Barbara for the planning.
