The Great Rotary Wheelbarrow Race will return after a two year gap on July 9 at Courtenay Park, Newton Abbot.

This event is part of the Newton Abbot Carnival week – a fun event involving teams of eight pushing a wheelbarrow around a 230 metre course for an hour.

They raise sponsorship for their own charity, school, club or organisation.

Organiser Rotarian Martin Smith reports that six teams have registered to date, raising funds for Rowcroft Hospice, Meadowside and Citizens Advice Teignbridge.

Martin said: ‘I’m hoping another six teams will come forward to join in the fun, and we get some applicants to join the inaugural junior race.

‘Two years ago, more than £4,000 was raised for different charities.’

He added there are just a few corners that need sponsors if any local businesses wish to support the day for just £60?
