IT is time to come together at Newton Abbot’s foremost record shop this weekend as the independent establishment joins stores nation-wide to celebrate the industry.
Roger Cox and Marsha Miles, owners of Phoenix Sounds, are gearing up to take part in their first Record Store Day on Saturday, April 22, since taking over the store last year.
As the biggest annual event for independent record stores, this is the day when music fans get it on and support their local record store, as well as celebrate all things vinyl.
Phoenix Sounds is a community hub for music lovers and will be opening its doors from 8am on April 22, with a range of special events and promotions throughout the day including live music and a DJ set from local artists.
Roger said: ‘Marsha and I are really excited to be participating in our first Record Store Day.
‘Normally, we would be customers queuing up from 5am!’
‘We’ll have some fantastic rare and limited-edition releases and box-sets available, as well as live music, giveaways, and more.
‘It will be a real celebration of music.
‘We will also be supporting our chosen charity, No Limits Café in Newton Abbot.’
Phoenix Sounds will be offering exclusive Record Store Day releases, from a range of artists and genres including Taylor Swift, The Cure, Duran Duran, Blur and David Bowie.
Record Store Day was established in 2007 to celebrate the uniqueness of independent record stores and their importance to the local communities.
Since then, it has become a global phenomenon, with thousands of stores and millions of music fans taking part each year.
