WITH more the 20 accidents reported to them Newton Abbot’s police have urged people to ‘stay at home and only travel if necessary’.
Police have been swamped with calls by people caught out buy the treacherous icy conditions.,
On their Twitter page Newton Abbot’s police say: ‘There are currently over 20 reported RTCs in Teignbridge alone that we are dealing with due to the ice.
‘These are only the ones reported to us with more being called in as I type this.
‘Please stay at home and only travel if necessary.’
National Highways South West has tweeted: ‘A38 Devon is closed eastbound between the A383 Caton and the A382 Heathfield due to several road traffic collisions from icy conditions in the area. Traffic within the closure is being released past the scene. Police are on scene.’
Further down the A38 was closed in both directions in Cornwall and National Highways is urging people to drive with care.
The A380 is closed northbound as far as Ashcombe Cross due to three separate RTCs due to ice on the road.
The exit ramp on the A380 South Devon Highway is closed due to recovery work for a rolled over vehicle at the Penn Inn Roundabout.
National Highways has issued a warning to drive with care.
A Yellow Warning of ice is in place until 11am this morning but the Mid-Devon Advertiser is received unconfirmed reports of many more accidents and slips this morning
