TRAVELLERS have been camped on a park in Newton Abbot for three weeks.
The group moved into Sandringham Park in Buckland on June 11.
Teignbridge Council says it is working through the legal process to deal with the unauthorised encampment.
A spokesman said: ‘Please be assured that we are following the same legal process used for all unauthorised encampments across the district and the relevant paperwork has been served.
‘Recent unauthorised encampments in the car park at Forde House left of their own accord before we could issue legal papers.’
The council says its cleansing teams are attending the site where possible to ‘help reduce waste items’.
Once the encampment has vacated the park, the cleaning teams will go back.
The spokesman added: ‘We will review our existing security arrangements following repossession of the land.
‘Residents concerned about anti-social behaviour should contact the police.
‘Thank you for your patience while the legal process is followed.’
