BOVEY Tracey has plenty to be proud of, after winning an incredible five awards in the 2022 Royal Horticultural Society South West in Bloom campaign.

The South West in Bloom judges visited the town’s parks and gardens in July shortly after members of Brimley WI had given the streets a final tidy-up to make it spick and span.

One judge observed: ‘Bovey Tracey is a charming town nestling on the southeastern edge of Dartmoor with a thriving business community all keen to enhance their buildings and high street with floral displays. The town is well cared for and cherished by residents.

‘Hanging baskets and containers throughout the town are well planted and maintained.

‘It was great to see wildflower mixes used on the verges. Bovey Tracey Primary School have grown wildflowers and it was good to meet such an enthusiastic and knowledgeable group of school children. There is a real sense of pride evident within the community.’

Proud mayor, Cllr Sheila Brooke and co-ordinator Richard Taylor made the trip to Haselbury Mill where they heard the results.

A spokesperson for Bovey Tracey Town council said: ‘This is another great result for Bovey Tracey which is recognised for its community horticultural attributes.

‘This has been achieved by joint working by town’s Bloom leaders with local businesses, residents, and gardening enthusiasts, the town council with a special thank you to their groundsmen Peter Stanyon and Roger Rance who manage and maintain the baskets throughout the season and undertake the watering of the baskets at 5am most mornings.’
