IN a bid to raise funds for charity, a Devon firefighter is preparing to take on the famous New York City Marathon.

Jon Meek, who serves with Moretonhampstead Fire Station, will be taking on the iconic 26 mile road race on November 5.

He will be raising money for a cause close to both his and his colleagues’ hearts: The Fire Fighters Charity.

‘Please support this great charity that help injured and recovering Firefighters’ Jon said.

‘The UK fire family’s charity, here for every member of our extensive fire service community.

‘They exist to help them all to live healthier and happier throughout their lives and they do that by providing a broad range of health and wellbeing services, online and in person’ he added.

As of Tuesday, October 24, Jon has raised more than £100, with donors imparting not just funds, but words of encourgement too.

‘Great cause and smash the race Jon’ said one.

‘Have a great run Jon! Will be rooting for you’ said another.
