A DAWLISH man received a suspended jail sentence for attacking a man in Teignmouth with a bar.

Louie Stephen Winfield, aged 39, of Second Avenue, South Dawlish, admitted assaulting Caelib Hampton, causing him actual bodily harm.

Winfield also admitted having an offensive weapon, a metal bar, in public at Teignmouth.

He was sentenced to prison for 24 weeks, suspended for 12 months.

South and West Devon Magistrates' Court said the reason for the sentence was ‘Offence so serious.

‘Reason for custody: sustained attack with a weapon causing nasty injuries.’

The defendant must comply with the following requirements within the supervision period of 12 months: Rehabilitation Activity Requirement to comply with any instructions of the responsible officer to attend appointments or to participate in any activity as required by the responsible officer up to a maximum of 20 days.

Winfield must also pay £85 Crown Prosecution Service costs and £128 to fund victim services.
