SUGGESTIONS are being requested for a carving to be made out of a Dawlish tree stump.

Dawlish Town Council is hoping to get views on what residents would like to see being carved on the stump of a horse chestnut tree.

The tree on the Lawn recently had to be felled by Teignbridge Council’s tree surgeons.

It had been monitored for a number of years, was in a very poor condition and almost dead.

The district council will plant a replacement tree near the site. But a 1.5 metre stump has been left and town councillors would like to make a carving from the remains.

Some funding has been allocated for the carving but the council wants to hear suggestions on what could be carved there.

The answers will be used to brief a wood carver. Replies need to be in by February 15 and there is a form available on the Dawlish Town Council website.
