A WARNING has been issued at Stover Country Park, near Newton Abbot, after blue-green algae was found in the lake.

The Environment Agency has confirmed the presence of the algae and is advising visitors not to come into contact with the water.

Blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria, can sometimes produce toxins that are harmful to people and animals.

Exposure can cause symptoms including sickness, diarrhoea, skin irritation, breathing difficulties and allergic reactions.

Dogs and other animals are considered particularly at risk if they drink contaminated water.

Visitors are being urged to keep pets away from the lake and avoid swallowing or coming into contact with the water while the warning remains in place.
