BUS company Stagecoach South West has announced a range of fare and ticket changes designed to make travel across the region simpler, faster, and better value while supporting greener, ‘digital-first’ journeys.
As part of the changes which come into effect on July 20, single bus fares will continue to be capped at a maximum of £3, thanks to the Government’s ongoing national fare cap initiative.
Also being introduced is a simpler, broader South West ‘zone’ ticket which replaces several local megarider zones, giving customers wider travel flexibility with fewer ticket types to choose from.
These zone tickets will have lower prices, including a reduced £10 day ticket, plus reductions on seven day and 28 day options.
Some legacy tickets, such as NiteRider, paper Flexi Rider, smart cards, and certain college-specific fares, are being withdrawn to streamline options.
There will also be an increase to promotional single fares from £2 to £2.20 to help the company ‘deliver high-quality services’.
Customers are encouraged to make use of the Stagecoach app, which allows journey planning; tracking buses in real time and buying and activating tickets before boarding.
Using the app and contactless payment not only makes travel more convenient but also reduces boarding times and helps cut down on paper tickets – making travel more efficient and sustainable.
Peter Knight, Managing Director at Stagecoach South West, said: 'These changes are about making it easier for customers to travel confidently, affordably, and sustainably.
'By capping single fares at £3, simplifying ticket choices, and investing in digital solutions like our app, we’re working to create a better experience for every journey.’
