REPRESENTATIVES of a parish council have submitted a petition to urge the county-wide authority to carry out resurfacing works.
Cllr John Radford, chairman of Kingskerswell Parish Council, and parish clerk, Juliette Thompson, travelled to county hall, which is the headquaters of Devon County Council (DCC), to present the authority with a petition carrying more than 60 signatures to request the resurfacing of the pavements and roads in Lyn Grove and Meadow Close.
The petition stressed how pedestrians, in particular those using wheelchairs, mobility scooters, pushchairs, prams and so on, cannot safely use the pavements in the condition they are in at present.
‘The road is in a state of disrepair, with Devon County Council attending to potholes on a weekly basis and we the residents request the road be resurfaced,’ the petition read.
Cllr Radford, who read out the petition on behalf of the petition organiser, Jared Lowry, said: ‘I felt I needed to speak at county hall and remind them that there policy is to encourage people to give up their cars and walk more often.
‘I questioned DCC on how can the public walk on pavements that are in a bad state of repair and asked the council if they will allocate a budget to the parish where we can resurface our own.
‘While speaking to petition signatories it was clear residents are unhappy with the way our village has been neglected over the years when it comes to pavements.’
The relevant Cabinet Member or Head of Service will be asked to respond direct to the petitioner on the issues raised, within a 15 day time frame.
