AHEAD of this afternoon's Proclamation in Newton Abbot of the accession of King Charles III, the town's museum has released this picture on its Facebook page.
It shows the official Proclamation of Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne in 1952.
Like this afternoon's ceremony, the Proclamation was read at St Leonard’s Tower.
The Mayor of Newton Abbot will read the proclamation of the accession of King Charles III from St Leonard’s Tower at 2pm today (Monday).
If you’re unable to attend the proclamation in person, the event will be live streamed on the Newton Abbot Town Council Facebook page.
A book of condolence has also been opened at Newton’s Place and will be available to sign before and after the reading of the proclamation.
The book of condolence will be available to sign between 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, and 9:00am-1:30pm on Saturday until the day after the funeral.
Please note that Newton’s Place will be closed on Monday the 19th for the funeral.
