A PARISH council has strongly objected to an application seeking to change the use of land off Long Lane from agricultural to industrial.

25/00642/NPA is seeking prior approval to confirm change of use of an existing agricultural building together with the associated surrounding space on land off Long Lane, near Haccombe.

It is seeking to change to a flexible B2/B8 use, which includes industrial and storage uses.

According to the planning statement, the site will be for ‘storage and maintenance of construction plant and materials’.

And should the application be approved, the applicant intends to submit a subsequent application to ‘replace the existing shed with a new building’.

Haccombe-with-Combe Parish Council has lodged an objection to the application, giving several reasons for its decision to do so.

The council says access to the site is ‘wholly unsuitable’, saying that, beyond Miller Trading Estate, the road narrows ‘considerably’ and is, therefore, ‘inappropriate for HGVs and articulated lorries’.

The use of this lane by such vehicles will make the area unsafe for other road users, the council says.

Also, the council says the proposed site is on an exposed hilltop, facing open countryside and is highly visible for miles around, as well as being outside the Local Plan.

The main building at the site is an agricultural shed used for the feeding of livestock and storage of machinery.

The surrounding area is a mixture of hardstanding and fenced paddock.

There is an existing stable block within the surrounding space.

A target date of June 24 for a decision on the application has been given by Teignbridge.
