A LONG-serving member of Dartmoor National Park Authority (DNPA) has stepped down after 12 years of service, including six years as chair.

Pamela Woods, pictured, officially concluded her term at the end September, having helped guide the DNPA through significant challenges and championed the protection and promotion of Dartmoor.

She joined the Authority’s Standards Committee as an independent member in 2009, before being appointed to its Board in September 2016.

She became chair in June 2019, holding the position until June 2025.

At her final Authority meeting in September, Ms Woods was presented with a framed limited-edition print marking the 75th anniversary of Dartmoor’s designation as a National Park.

Reflecting on her time with the organisation, she said it had been a privilege to help safeguard the area in partnership with local people and organisations.

‘It has been a great privilege to have been a Member of Dartmoor National Park Authority’, she said.

She added that the role carried significant responsibility, but also brought ‘immense personal satisfaction for work done thoughtfully and well’.

Ms Woods said she had enjoyed her time as an Authority member and valued the shared aim of serving Dartmoor’s best interests.

Current chair Will Dracup praised her leadership, advocacy and commitment to the National Park, saying her passion for Dartmoor and the UK’s National Parks would have a lasting impact.

He also paid tribute to the way she led the Authority through major challenges, including the Covid-19 pandemic.

‘Ms Woods’ leadership and passion for Dartmoor and the UK’s National Parks will have a lasting impact’, he said.

‘As Chair, she guided the Authority through significant challenges including the covid pandemic and did so with compassion and understanding. I thank her for her outstanding contribution’.

Ms Woods was appointed directly by the Secretary of State to represent the national interest on the Authority.

A national recruitment campaign to find her successor took place earlier this summer, with an official announcement about the appointment expected in the coming weeks.
