ONE of the many recipients of support following the budget is a Teignmouth-based art charity, which is set to receive thousands of pounds worth of funding, however in order to claim that funding it must raise a comprable amount itself.

Teignmouth Arts Action Group (TAAG) community centre has secured £88,560 from the Community Ownership Fund; in order for the charity to claim this money, however, it must raise the same amount.

‘TAAG has been awarded a grant of £88,000 by the Community Ownership Fund but it is match funding, which means that we have to raise a further £88,000 to match it before we are able to claim the fund so any donations will be very welcome,’ a spokesman for TAAG said in the charity’s latest newslatter.

‘For anyone who is able to support us there are a number of ways that donations can be made to help us reach this total’ it went on to say.

The charity can be supported in several ways, including but not limited to: participation in the Teignbridge Communities Lottery; setting up a fundraising event; donating Nectar points and using ‘Easyfundraising’ for online purchases.

Newton Abbot MP, Anne Marie Morris, took to twitter to express her thanks at the news.

‘Arts and culture make a real difference to the lives and wellbeing of the community, and this funding is most welcome,’ she said.

TAAG was established ten years ago in a former garage, which was repaired and rebuilt by volunteers; it was created as a community hub, staffed and run by supporters, and comprising two galleries, a workshop, a meeting room, and a kitchen.
