HOGLET season is officially underway at ELM Wildlife as the charity has welcomed its first litter of 2025.
Hedgehogs usually give birth in June and July, though the hoglet season can begin in early spring following a mild winter and stretch until autumn.
The average litter size is four or five young, though can be as many as seven.
On Sunday, April 27, the charity welcomed its first litter of four hoglets.
‘Mum gave birth to four healthy hoglets and has been moved to a quiet area where she can rear them in peace’ a spokesperson for ELM Wildlife said.
Last year the charity, set up by Rick, Jacky and Emily Parker in 2018, purchased a plot of land and it intends to use it to house its very own, purpose built rescue centre.
To this end, the charity launched a GoFundMe fundraiser.
