DOG trainer Ingrid Grayling has found herself in international demand after actor Martin Clunes praised her in his new book about bringing two impish puppies to heel.

Now Ingrid says she is offering her courses online to help dog owners from Scotland to the States who have contacted her asking for help.

Martin contacted Ingrid after he and his wife, TV producer Philippa Braithwaite, acquired two 12-week-old Jack Russell puppies – and quickly found their lives turned upside down.

The actor, known for his roles in Doc Martin and Men Behaving Badly, said they were at their wits end trying to control the pups at their working farm in Dorset.

The final straw was when they attacked a sheep and a deer on the farm but as puppy-training classes did no good, Martin knew specialist help was urgently needed.

Ingrid, who trains in the Teign Valley, has been dubbed ‘The Dog Whisperer’ and her skills have been highlighted on regional TV and in the national press.

She assured Martin and Philippa that no dogs were untrainable, and provided the couple with an intensive course on pack leadership at her home to put them firmly but lovingly back in control.

Ingrid said: ‘It was an absolutely lovely experience because they are both such enthusiastic dog lovers and clearly craved a happy outcome for their pets.’

‘The task was especially challenging as the pups were both from the same litter and raised together, meaning they formed an attachment to each other rather than their owners.

‘But Martin and Philippa were determined to see the job through to a successful end, and put in a lot of time and effort to follow the techniques I taught them – and it worked.’

Martin’s new book, titled Training John and Murray, is a hilarious and often heart-warming account of their experiences before, during and after Ingrid entered their lives.

Ingrid said: ‘I felt flattered and honoured to be given celebrity status in Martin’s book – but wasn’t prepared for the whirlwind of attention it whipped up from dog lovers everywhere.

‘It was when an owner living in Texas asked if I could provide my course online that I thought, well why not?

‘We can still work together as a team, even with an ocean between us.

‘This is opening up a major new chapter in my life – and I'm just wondering if it should be called Dogs Behaving Badly.

‘But I promise it will have a happy ending.’

Ingrid offers a range of one-to-one training sessions are offered by Ingrid, including specialist courses to stop dogs chasing livestock, as well as her new online tuition service.

Her training skills have been developed over four decades of working with all types of dogs, achieving outcomes which owners often describe as remarkable.

She says: ‘It’s wrong to think that a dog’s age or breed can prevent it from learning obedience, and it’s never too late to teach them who calls the shots in the human-canine relationship.

‘Laying down rules and setting boundaries produces a secure, calm and happy pet which the owner knows can be trusted to enjoy the freedom of walks off the lead.’
