A NEWTON Abbot man has been charged with two counts of the willful neglect of a child under the age of 16, in a manner likely to cause them unnecessary suffering or injury to health.

He denied both charges which relate to two different children.

He has been sent for trial at Exeter Crown Court on June 6 by South and West Devon Magistrates’ Court.

In addition, the man has denied a charge of engaging in behaviour that was controlling or coercive towards a woman including multiple assaults, taking away children (while breastfeeding), phone and bank card, kicking out of family home, taking her money and threatening her family.

He was also charged with possessing a weapon designed for the discharge of electrical incapacitation – a taser.

He is also charged with the possession of cannabis.

The court ordered that the identity of the children should not be divulged.
