AS world leaders were set to jet in for G7 summit in Carbis Bay, St Ives, campaigners from Teignbridge set off from Devon and other local activists gave them a big send-off from Plymouth Hoe.

Among the wellwishers was Teignbridge environmental researcher Michael Puleston who sent these words and pictures:

‘At the G7 conference, the major financial nations will discuss international finances, climate change, environmental policies and even Plastic pollution amongst many other issues.

‘On Saturday many climate activists groups from Devon and beyond started to make their way to Cornwall to remind world leaders that real steps need to be taken to address the global climate and ecological emergency (CEE) and not just make empty promises.

‘A G7 Earth march started from Plymouth Hoe, with around 70 people walking in stages to St Ives, this event was with the full co operation of local police and there was a good spirit between the walkers and the police and members of the public encountered on route through Plymouth to the Torpoint ferry where the marchers were guided safely across the river by “The Green Spirits” an enviromental group based around South Dartmoor and Teignbridge.

‘The Red rebels were also supporting the march from Plymouth Barbican to the Hoe, the theme of the march is “we are drowning in promises”.

‘So I attended, with a few others from Newton Abbot and the surrounding area, to support and march to the Torpoint ferry.

I was representing South Devon and Torbay Ocean rebellion Group and my newly formed Plastics Rebellion group (which will campaign about over production of plastic Globally), the event was mainly organised by Totnes Extinction Rebellion.
