A NEWTON Abbot man has been sentenced to a four month suspended prison sentence for illegally possessing a kitchen knife.

Stephen Northcott, 38, of St Anne’s Court, admitted possession of the blade, an eight inch silver kitchen knife, without reasonable excuse or lawful authority, at Newton Abbot on March 30 2021.

Magistrates imposed a sentence of four months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months due to his position as a sole carer for a disabled person.

He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £128 and prosecution costs of £200 and the knife was forfeited.
