A ROTARY club in Teignbridge set to depart for Ukraine is hoping to drum up funds to double its capacity for donations.

Rotary Newton Abbot are gearing up to deliver supplies to Ukraine.

The club funded three vans in October, transporting more than ten tons of medical supplies, sanitary products, sleeping bags and mobility equipment to the Ukraine.

And now Rotary Newton Abbot are preparing to transport more goods.

November’s planned trip, set to depart on November 29, will see Rotarian Martin Smith and brother Simon drive one of the town vans, with supporter Mike Lock and his brother taking the second van.

Mike is a retired headteacher, having seen out his career at Combe Pafford Academy in Torquay.

The approximate cost to fund a van - including hire, insurance, recovery, ferry, fuel, tolls, and accommodation—is £1,800.

Having secured funding for one van, Rotary Newton Abbot are looking to raise funds for the second van.

Rotary Newton Abbot have forged a strong partnership with ‘Cornwall & Devon – Sending Love to Ukraine’, conceived by Callington’s Darren Tait.

With an initial goal of driving a single van to the Continent, the Sending Love to Ukraine project soon grew.

Rotary Newton Abbot’s upcoming trip marks the 36th convoy; the club participated in the 35th.
