A CHARITY is a £1,000 better off thanks to the pedal-pushing efforts of a Newton Abbot store.
Staff at H Samuel in the town joined in with their store colleagues in their south west stores as 1,221 miles were ridden or exercise bikes on Friday to raise funds for Young Lives vs Cancer.
The distance was chosen as that is the miles to walk between the locations that the charity has hospice homes in.
‘We’re overwhelmed that we managed to raise that amount,’ said store manager Nicola Stanger.
‘Our plan was to ride a minimum of 68 miles during the day with a target of raising £200, so to pass that figure is fantastic.’
The static-cyclists were joined for a few hundred yards on their trek by Newton Abbot mayor Cllr Carol Bunday who took the saddle and wished them well in their efforts.
