A NEWTON Abbot girl has been raising some dough for charity by putting on a cake sale and raffle for WWF and the Red Cross.
In its second year, Red Murrell’s cake sale has become famous on Exeter Road, Newton Abbot.
‘We had people knocking on our door before it even started!’ said Rachel Murrell, Red’s mother.
In year two at St Micheal’s School, Red did her first cake sale last year in aid of Ukraine, which raised a staggering £700. Red’s efforts even earned her a Blue Peter badge.
Rachel continued: ‘Red loves baking and is just really quite a thoughtful young lady.
‘She loves Blue Peter, and they do a special sparkly Blue Peter badge for acts that help other people. It’s for people that really help other people.
‘She’s been wanting to do another cake sale for some time.
‘It was a lovely day, we had 12 large cakes, a big rocky road and then lots of cupcakes. A big thank you to everyone that helped out or donated ingredients, boxes and everything else.
The cake sale was well attended by Red’s teachers, friends and neighbours.
Overall, the sale and raffle made £444 for the two charities, with Red already planning the third annual cake sale.
Red said: ‘This time I wanted to help animals and humans.
‘I did a cake sale because I love baking and I want to help.
People like cakes, and they’re nice to make. I really liked making simnel cake because it’s got a lot of mixing.
