Thirsty fundraisers at a bungalow development in Newton Abbot have flicked the kettle on to raise almost £1,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Held at RoyaleLife’s Regency Court development, kind-hearted bungalow owners gathered for the charity’s annual coffee morning.

Led by sales adviser Sue Hunt, the important get-together included a feast and a prize-filled raffle.

Raising £900 on the day, RoyaleLife, the largest bungalow provider for the over 45s, surprised the organisers by adding £600 to the final amount, resulting in a total of £1,500 raised.

Sue said: ‘We had some great help from owners, so there was plenty of delicious, homemade food to go around. There were cakes, savories, Bucks Fizz and, of course, the obligatory tea, coffee and biscuits!’

Help on the day was given from Ace Home Support. The care company support one of Regency Court’s owners and donated two hampers as raffle prizes.

‘It has been wonderful to see the community get together to help this important cause. Macmillan helps people living with cancer around the country, and the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is a great way for people to get involved,’ added Sue.

Macmillan is a charity very close to Sue’s heart, having lost both her mum and two sisters to cancer.

She added: ‘It’s such a cruel disease that affects so many of us, and to see the owners enjoying such a worthwhile event, is something that I look forward to every year.’

The coffee morning is just one of several occasions held at Regency Court, with various charity events often held in the grounds of the development.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is an annual event which sees people all over the UK hosting their own coffee morning, with donations raised on the day going to Macmillan. In 2020, over £10 million was raised and the charity hopes to have topped that this year.

Regency Court is a luxury holiday bungalow development located in the heart of Devon.
