POLICE in Dawlish and Teignmouth have warned residents of a rising number of thefts of fuel.

In a warning on their Facebook page the towns’ police warn: ‘There has been a significant increase in fuel thefts from Vehicles, fuel storage locations and domestic heating oil tanks, predominantly in rural locations.Please find below Crime Prevention Advice:Secure vehicles and keys. (Do not leave keys in vehicles!)Consider locking fuel caps.Consider security lighting and overt/covert CCTVConsider the use of alarms and anti-siphoning devicesPark vehicles in busy, well-lit or overlooked areas if possible, ideally covered by CCTV.Parking with the fuel filler cap facing the road may act as a deterrent as thieves cannot hide behind the vehicle.Sign up to Farm/Business Watch and DC Alert
