YOUNGSTERS can take part in a host of free activities lined up at Newton Abbot museum this summer.

Among these is the Young Curators’ Club Summer Holiday Club with sessions are for eight to 16-year-olds which allow youngsters to try their hands at skills used by museum professionals such as conservation techniques and choosing the best objects to display.

The sessions run every Tuesday from August 5 to 29 between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

Also free are the Thursday Summer Craft sessions for people of all ages.

Two sessions are available, the first running 10am to 11am and the second running 11.30am to 12.30pm.

The workshops offer opportunities to create objects such as train-shaped pen holders, paper chain trains, badges and other accessories.

One session will even encourage people to invent their own train-based board games.

A paid-for event is the August 4 Back Along The Tracks creative writing workshop for adults which takes 200 years of rail travel as its theme.

Income from the 1pm to 4pm event will help fund other museum activities.

On August 8 there is a 3D buildings workshop taking place, focusing on Newton Abbot Train Station.

Two sessions are being run, one at 10:30am to 12pm and the second at 1:30pm to 3pm.

Families can work together to create a 3D model of the train station using pen, chalk, charcoal and pencil To be later featured in the museum in spring 2026.

The summer activities programme will run alongside the museum’s regular offerings and all sessions require pre-booking. Check out our website for details.
