PLANS for more than 50 new holiday apartments at Finlake Resort have been called in to Teignbridge Council’s planning committee following a formal request from a Chudleigh councillor.

Cllr Suzanne Sanders has asked for application 26/00908/MAJ to be considered by councillors, rather than being determined by planning officers under delegated powers.

The application, submitted by Haulfryn Group, seeks permission to replace the existing reception building, offices and sales display area at Finlake Holiday Park with 54 self-catering, one-bedroom holiday apartments.

Planning officers had been expected to reach a decision on the application by October 26.

The call-in comes amid a range of concerns over the proposed development, including its design and scale, relationship with the existing holiday park and potential impact on the surrounding landscape.

Concerns have also been raised about the effect on existing residents, including possible increases in noise and light, as well as pressure on infrastructure and the resort’s leisure facilities.

Flooding and drainage are also among the issues highlighted, alongside concerns about traffic and access.

The development could increase the number of visitors using the site, with concerns raised over pedestrian safety, parking and the adequacy of sustainable transport options.

The reasons for requesting committee consideration also include concerns over an over-reliance on private cars and the potential impact of additional traffic on the surrounding road network.

Waste management and the effect of the development on nature and biodiversity have also been raised.

There are further concerns about the loss of green space and the potential impact on the character of the resort and its surroundings.

But Haulfryn says the proposed apartments would meet demand for smaller holiday accommodation and attract a wider range of visitors, including those seeking short and out-of-season breaks.

Its planning statement says the scheme would widen the range and style of holiday accommodation available to visitors to Teignbridge and bring economic benefits to the local area.
