DOG owners are being encouraged to head to Haldon Forest Park for Walk Your Dog month this January.

Forestry England says while it may be tempting too stay indoors, regular walks are essential for a dog’s physical and mental health and will boost winter wellbeing at the same time.

A spokesman said: ‘January can be a difficult month of cold weather and long nights.

‘Spending time in nature with your best friend by your side is a fantastic way to enjoy natural light and fresh air.

‘Even a short walk can clear your mind and lift your mood.

‘Bring the whole family to enjoy space and freedom in the forest.’

Haldon Forest Park offers opportunities for gentle strolls or hilly hike and its features also include wild play, sand pits, and picnic areas and a cozy cafe, so the whole family can join in.

There is also onsite mobility hire so walks can be inclusive.

There are no seasonal restrictions and dogs are welcome all year.

The spokesman added: ‘There are so many scents and sounds to explore, your dog will never get tired of returning to the forest.

‘We just ask our furry friends stay close to their humans so they can be seen at all times.

'If you’re ready to take things up a gear, try running with your furry friend.

‘Lace up your trainers and try Haldon’s progressive running routes.
