MORE than 160 people attended the first band concert of the summer at Newton Abbot’s newly refurbished bandstand in Courtenay Park.

The Okehampton Excelsior Silver Band, a traditional brass band which perform at concerts as well as competing in contests, kicked off a series of summer concerts at the venue with an exciting performance on Sunday, May 8.

The concert, which kicked off at 2.30pm, was organised by Newton Abbot Town Council and was the first in a series of concerts planned for the summer.

On June 5 the Spectrum Music Concert Wind Band will be performing at the bandstand and on July 3 the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service Concert Band will be taking to the stage.
