AN 87-year-old man has been arrested and released on bail following a collision in Torquay that left a woman with life-threatening injuries.

In the wake of the incident, police are appealing for witnesses.

At approximately 9.25am on Wednesday, September 3, officers received a report of a collision on St Albans Road, Torquay.

It involved a Ford Focus and two parked vehicles - a Volkswagen Caddy van and a Mercedes coach.

As a result of the collision, a 66-year-old woman pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where she remains.

A female passenger in the van sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

A spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall Police said: ‘An 87-year-old man from Torquay has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

‘He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

‘Anyone with any relevant information and dashcam footage which may assist the investigation and has not already spoken to us is asked to contact us via our website or by calling 101 quoting log 191 of 3/9/25’.
