There was great excitement iat Canada Hill School, Newton Abbot, as the whole school created portraits of Her Majesty the Queen in a range of media and these were displayed around the grounds for our families to see at the end of the week.

Everyone found out some facts about Her Majesty’s incredible 70 year reign and the youngest children drew pictures and wrote letters to The Queen, sending their congratulations.

They also asked her some questions such as ‘ How heavy is your crown?’ and ‘What are your corgis called?’

These letters have been posted and the children eagerly await a response from the Palace.

On the last day, a fantasticly sunny Friday, families came on to the the school field for the first on site event since the start of the pandemic.

Everyone was dressed in their best, ready to enjoy tea and cake organised by the Friends of Canada Hill.

The whole school of 350 children and staff sang together and waved flags as proud parents looked on.

The afternoon culminated with a reenactment of the coronation ceremony performed by over 50 of our Early Years and year 1 children complete with small coaches, horses and even a throne!

Matthew Bealey, EYFS teacher, said: ‘There was a terrific atmosphere as we all came together for the first time after so long.

‘The children have been presented with commemorative badges and a beautiful souvenir book, which we hope will help them remember this special occasion for many years to come.’
