A MAN suspected of making threats to kill and possessing an offensive weapon in Newton Abbot remains in police custody.

In an update in last night’s major incident in the town a police spokesperson said today, Thursday: ‘Officers were called to Wolborough Street, Newton Abbot, at around 4.25pm on Wednesday, June 28, following a report of concern for the welfare of a man.

‘Following several threats being made, a localised road closure was put in place while negotiations took place at the property.

‘The force helicopter was also deployed to the scene.

‘The man exited the address and was compliant with police.

‘Whilst at the address, officers located and seized a number of weapons.

‘A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

‘He remains in police custody.’
