CREW from Newton Abbot Fire Station recently teamed up with Western Medical Services for a realistic casualty extrication training exercise at Gilpins Demolition yard.

The latest weekly training session focused on casualty extrication procedures.

And to make it all the more more realistic, the crew were joined by members from Western Medical Services.

The scenario saw five casualties trapped within three vehicles: of the five casualties, two were ‘live’ casualties from Western Medical Services, a leading provider of independent ambulance services across the United Kingdom.

Working together, the combined fire and ambulance service crew set about removing the side of one vehicle using hydraulic cutters, as well as the roof and doors of the other vehicles.

A spokesperson for the station said: ‘We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank Gilpin Demolition Group for allowing us to train at their site.

‘It is always greatly appreciated and gives us the chance to train as realistic as possible.

‘We also would like to thank Western Medical Services members for their attendance last night.

‘We were able to learn a great deal about how they operate during an incident, and its always great to work closely with our partner agencies’.
